Facts On Free Online Tax Software
by Jo Ring & Ken
When I was, once, browsing on the internet for “tax preparation online”, I was surprised to see a lot of advertisements offering free online tax preparation. I suddenly was interested in doing research to find out whether or not these free online tax software legitimate; I want to know whether or not they are just scams.
After doing some research, I found out an interesting fact that Internal Revenue Service has collaborated with around 20 software companies in order to provide low cost or free services to the national public for tax preparation and filing. So, to me, it’s now clear that these free services are legitimate and secure.
However, there are some limitations if you want to use the free services. You can take benefits of using free online tax software if only your adjusted gross income (AGI), which is your earnings after you have taken your deductions, is less than $57,000. Besides, you can use the free service only for your federal tax return preparation and filing; it’s not free for filing state tax.
Free TurboTax
One of the most popular free online tax software is Turbo Tax freedom edition. This program is easy-to-use and you can easily download it directly from Intuit’s website. However, unless you are an active military with an AGI of $57,000, you can only use this free service if your AGI is not more than $31,000. As with any free stuff you get from online, you may be offered with lots of advertisements while using this free service.
Free TaxACT
Another free online tax software to consider is the free version of TaxACT. If you are between 19 and 55 years old and make an adjusted gross income $57,000 or less, so you can prepare and file your federal taxes for free with this free service. Many say that the paid version of TaxACT is the cheapest way for tax preparation and filing.
Overall, the above are just two of the popular and legitimate free online tax software listed by IRS. For more information on the free and secure services for tax filing, you can visit the IRS’s website on www.irs.gov.
